Chapter 181: Everybody Says Don’t

Okay, so I am going to try my best to keep tonight’s blog short. The time is now 11:42pm and I really should be finishing the blog right now, not just starting it. Fortunately, there isn’t all that much to be said about today. It wasn’t a bad day. It also wasn’t a great day. It was a tired day. I felt tired pretty much all day. I have had this trouble the past few days. My Mom and I were discussing it because she has been having the same problem this week. We have both been feeling really achy and really drained all week and couldn’t figure out why exactly. We both came to the same conclusion as to the reason behind this – we haven’t worked out at all this week. It is odd, because typically working out will leave you kind of sore but it is a different type of sore than we’ve been experiencing these past few days. I don’t know how to explain that difference exactly but it is very different. The workout sore actually feels kind of good, whereas this sore doesn’t feel good at all. We’ve just been putting it off all week and getting to late starts in the mornings and such, and thus providing ourselves with excuses not to exercise. I think the main issue is that, as I learned from one of my all-time favorite movies, “Legally Blonde,” exercise causes endorphins and endorphins make you happy… and happy people just don’t kill people. It’s just logic. This morning there was really no excuse for it, either. I woke up before my alarm went off at 7:30am, and was done with my morning rituals in time to smoke two cigarettes before 8am. Actually, in spite of how early I woke, I wound up being really rushed this morning. I spent far too long doing my makeup today and came dangerously close to making myself late for work. This is the second day in a row that I have come really close to being late. We are only two days into the month, as far as work goes, and I really need to get my act together. I did do a pretty complicated makeup look today, though, that required a lot of extra attention to details. I did green, white and red makeup in honor of Cinco De Mayo. I wanted to do something special and Mexican themed for the occasion and I came across one of the most hilarious makeup tutorial videos I have ever seen with a young Hispanic girl putting together this makeup look, while a baby played around unattended in the background and all kinds of misspelled instructions popped up on screen telling you that you can purchase the products she was using at the swap meet. It made me laugh so hard. I did really like the look, though, so I decided to recreate it for my Cinco De Mayo look. It was a little odd, though, because all day I didn’t seem to come across anybody who really gave a shit that it was Cinco De Mayo. It’s a shame. I do have a good deal of Mexican in my blood and I do like to honor that every so often. What better day for that than Mexico’s Independence Day? Ah, whatever.

So, work was a bore today. I managed to write my two songs today, although they were a bit of a struggle to get out. One was really dance-oriented, as seems to be a trend with me lately, and the other was kind of old school. I think it was influenced a lot by all of the Streisand I have been listening to this week. I have decided, actually, to take my Streisand obsession to the next level sometime in the near future. One of my co-workers was commenting on all my Streisand themed Facebook postings and asked if I had seen “A Star Is Born.” I was telling her how I haven’t really seen any of Barbra’s films, aside from “The Way We Were,” which I barely remember because I only watched it once a very long time ago, and “The Mirror Has Two Faces,” which I absolutely loved. This got me thinking, though. Barbra has starred in 18 films, starting with “Funny Girl” and most recently “Meet The Fockers.” I think I am going to start a collection. I already have the two I mentioned above, so that leaves 16 more. The ones I am most interested in seeing, based on listening to the music these past few days, are “Funny Girl,” “Yentl,” and “The Main Event.” My Mom and I were talking about it and she was telling me about how funny the early Barbra films were. I am definitely in the mood for some light-hearted, funny musicals these days. So, I have decided that after I get paid again I am going to go out and search for some Streisand DVDs. Speaking of Barbra, tonight I am listening to her music of the 90s and I really love a lot of it. One song, in particular, that I am really in love with is “Everybody Says Don’t.” This song is a big motivational message to me – “everybody says don’t, everybody says can’t, everybody says wait around for miracles, that’s the way the world’s made, well I insist on miracles.” I relate to that song a lot – I try my best not to be the one waiting for a miracle to happen but the one making a miracle happen for myself. It can be difficult to maintain that point of view, but I do the very best that I can. It is good to have a song reminding me of this mission of mine. I also really love the song “Ordinary Miracles,” “Speak Low,” “Tell Him (with Celine Dion,)” and my favorite, “I Finally Found Someone (with Bryan Adams,)” from “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” Like I said yesterday, the more I listen to Barbra the more I absolutely LOVE her. She is amazing.

I also received my Urban Decay order today. I was very surprised by that because the order status just changed to “shipped” yesterday. When I got home after work I rushed to rip the box open. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with my items. Actually, that’s not entirely true. I am in love with the 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil set, and wish that I had order two of them instead of the Face Case that I ordered. My friend April told me before I ordered the “Summer Of Love” palette that the eye shadows from Urban Decay don’t have a great color payoff but I figured it was worth trying, anyway. I couldn’t be happier with the colors in the “Summer Of Love” palette, either. That palette is amazing. Unfortunately, the three eye shadow colors in the Face Case palette are not that great. They are all glitter shadows and have turned out to be a lot more glitter than pigment, which sucks because the glitter falls away and then you’re just left with a weak color on the eye. So, I don’t know that I’ll wind up ordering any more eye shadows from Urban Decay. Of course, I still swear by their Eye Shadow Primer Potion and the 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils are probably my favorite eyeliner I have ever used. I also tried out the lip glosses in the palette and wasn’t overly impressed with any of them, either. It’s a shame. Oh well. Like I said, though, the 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil set I got is amazing. I am really excited to put those to use. However, to ease my disappointment over the Face Case, I went out and spent a little bit of money this evening. My Mom and I had decided earlier today that we wanted to have Mexican for dinner, again in honor of Cinco De Mayo, and ordered from this delicious little hole in the wall in town, simply called Burritos. We ordered from them and, since there was a wait, stopped by the CVS around the corner. My Mom needed to grab a couple of things and I wanted to check out the Essence Of Beauty makeup brushes that are only sold at CVS, as far as I know. I had come across this set of four dual ended brushes they had for under $10. Girls on YouTube all seem to have these Essence of Beauty brushes, so I figured I could trust them to be decent quality. So, I picked up this set of brushes for only $9.99, which is a really good deal, and I am pretty excited to try them out. The brushes feel really high quality and I am hoping they work as well as they feel like they would. I already have a couple of sets of makeup brushes but this set includes a couple of brushes I didn’t already have, and better versions of some of the ones I do have. Besides, the more brushes the better, as far as I am concerned.

So, it is now 12:30am and I am ready to go to bed. The rest of my night was pretty bland. Piano practice, “American Idol” kicked off my favorite contestant, Aaron Kelly, and I ate Mexican food and talked about Streisand with my Mom. I also found out a couple of new details about my brother’s wedding, including the outfit I am going to have to wear. It is all black. Black linen pants, black shirt and some sort of Adidas that my brother is buying as his gift to the groomsmen. He also informed me of the dates that I will need to take off of work, which is really just the day before the wedding and I am going to take the Monday after off, as well, because my family will still be in town and I want to spend that little bit of extra time with them. I need to put in my request for time off when I go to work tomorrow. I also need to get on the ball as far as a wedding gift and such, because this is only about 3 weeks away at this point. I suppose my Streisand DVD shopping will have to wait. Actually, this evening I found out another piece of news that will cause delays in my DVD shopping, as well. On Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando, MOTHERFUCKING HOLE WILL BE PLAYING!!! I cannot wait. Not going to this concert is not an option. I absolutely have to. After all, Courtney Love is extremely unpredictable and you never know how many chances you’re going to get to see her live. She is going to be so close and this will be the first real opportunity I have ever had to see her, so I just feel like I absolutely have to go. So, as soon as I get paid again I am buying tickets. I really cannot wait. I think my Mom is going to go with me. Tickets are only $35 for the General Admission floor area, which is really not bad considering it is MOTHERFUCKING HOLE!!! I couldn’t possibly be more excited for this show. This is another mark off of the list of artists I have to see live before I die. I cannot wait. For now, though, it is 12:39am and I simply must get to bed. My Mom and I agreed that we absolutely have to, no matter what, workout tomorrow morning. So, I need my rest. Goodnight.
